ای پوزیشن تحصیلی توسط دانشگاه آلتو و دانشکده علوم و فیزیک در زمینه در فیزیک ماده چگال کوانتومی نظری ارائه شده است. این پوزیشن در زمینه فیزیک ماده چگال نظری، به ویژه در فن آوری های کوانتوم و مواد کوانتومی، بر تعامل کوانتومی در سیستم های بس دره ای متمرکز شده است.

مدت بورسیه و حقوق و مزایا

قرارداد داوطلب دوره دکتری در ابتدا به مدت دو سال و پس از اتمام موفقیت آمیز آزمون میان ترم به مدت دو سال دیگر تمدید می شود. کل مدت تحصیل چهار سال است. حجم فعالیت سالانه پژوهشگران در دانشگاه آلتو 1612 ساعت است.

دانشگاه آلتو از سیستم حقوق دانشگاه های فنلاند پیروی می کند. این قرارداد شامل بهداشت و درمان شغلی دانشگاه آلتو است. محل کار اصلی، پردیس اوتانیمی در دانشگاه آلتو خواهد بود.

Ph.D. position in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics

Ph.D. position in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics

We invite applications for a Ph.D. position in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics, in particular in quantum technologies and quantum materials, focused on interacting entangled quantum many-body systems. The prospective Ph.D. student will work on quantum phenomena in interacting many-body systems, investigated with a combination of numerical techniques and advanced theoretical tools. The project aims to exploit many-body techniques based on tensor networks to understand the phase behavior of interacting quantum systems in one and two dimensions, exploiting a novel technique to characterize quantum criticality. Ultimately, the prospective Ph.D. student may implement the methodology on a near-term quantum computer.

When many quantum systems couple together, a variety of collective behavior can arise, from the emergence of exotic quasiparticles to the realization of macroscopic quantum states. The transitions between these phases, known as quantum phase transitions, are zero temperature transitions in quantum systems hosting an infinite number of components. Investigations of quantum phase transitions represent one of the most fertile areas of quantum and condensed matter physics and constitute an exciting open problem in the physics of quantum many-body systems. In particular, the point marking the transition between different states, known as the critical point, is a potential source of exotic phenomena at the macroscale, with outstanding implications for quantum technologies and quantum materials science. However, the interest in understanding phase transitions is as significant as the challenges their general solution represents. The prospective Ph.D. student will investigate the critical quantum properties of many-body systems by combining ground-breaking theoretical advances in the field of criticality that allow the characterization of critical points from fluctuations in finite size systems, with a state-of-the-art computational method in many-body physics. The student will gain in-depth expertise in computational methods based on tensor networks and in the field of criticality, thereby preparing him/her for a future career in theoretical physics, quantum technologies, or quantum materials.

The Ph.D. project will be carried out under the joint supervision of Prof. Jose Lado and Prof. Christian Flindt in the Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University. We look for highly motivated individuals with a strong background in theoretical physics and a genuine interest in quantum phenomena and technology.

Duration, salary and benefits

The fixed term Doctoral Candidate contract is initially for two years, followed by an extension for another two-year period after successful completion of the midterm exam after 1-1/2 years. The total duration of the position is four years. The annual workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1612 hours.

Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities and we provide them upon request. The contract includes Aalto University occupational healthcare.

The primary workplace will be the Otaniemi Campus at Aalto University.
